Apple Rumored To Be Working On A 4K Apple TV

According to Bloomberg, the next generation of the Apple TV will support 4K streaming. Earlier this month, Apple hired Timothy D. Twerdhal, the chief of Amazon's Fire TV unit, to run its television operations. His arrival comes as the company tests a new set-top that it may release as soon as this year. Internally codenamed "J105," the new box will be capable of streaming ultra-high-definition 4K and more vivid colors, according to Bloomberg, quoting unnamed “people familiar with the plans.” As 4K becomes the “next big thing” being implemented in more TV’s, game consoles and other streaming devices. I think it would definitely be in Apple’s best interest to “get with the times” and make a 4K Apple TV, might at well bring 4K movie and TV content to iTunes as well. Thoughts ?

Next Apple TV To Not Support 4K Video Streaming ?

Apple is planning to show off a revamped Apple TV set-top box with an App Store and Siri support at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference in June. A new report claims that the new box will not include support for 4K video streaming even though several services like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube offer content in the high-resolution format. The report points out that 4K streaming is expensive for content providers given the bandwidth required, and the vast majority of Americans do not even have Internet connectivity at fast enough speeds to support such streaming. Still, those who do currently stream 4K content or hope to in the relatively near future are likely to be disappointed by Apple's decision to forgo support in the next Apple TV. The new Apple TV is also expected to support a package of streaming television channels, Apple is reportedly in talks with ABC, Fox, and Disney, Discovery and Viacom, to try to put together a TV package of select channels that would reportedly cost $25 to $40 per month. Apple is said to be aiming to announce the service at WWDC in June and launch it in the September.
