Soul Calibur VI Producer Interested In Brining The Game To Nintendo Switch

The website Metro recently got to go hands-on with Soul Calibur VI which is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC next year and the publication took the chance to speak with the games’ Producer, Motohiro Okubo. Okubo was asked if we can expect a Switch version but because the game has been in development for over three years, and the team didn’t know know what Nintendo’s next console was going to be back then, a Switch version isn’t currently on the agenda for him. Although the chances of seeing Soul Calibur VI on the Nintendo Switch are looking rather slim, it’s promising to hear that Okubo is, like many people, interested in the system.
GC: Is there any chance of a Switch version, so we can have Link again? [Link was the guest character in the GameCube version of Soul Calibur II – GC]

MO: Soul Calibur VI development started more than three years ago. And nobody knew anything about Switch back then. So, as a matter of fact we are not working on Switch, as of now. But of course, personally, I’m interested in the platform. So if the Unreal Engine can adapt to Switch, and evolve itself, then maybe the possibility will be more.

Soulcalibur VI Revisits The Story/Era Of The First Game

Bandai Namco revealed Soulcalibur VI during The Game Awards 2017, now we know a little bit more about the game. Soulcalibur VI will "revisit the events of the original Soulcalibur to uncover hidden truths with a diverse lineup of new and returning characters," Bandai Namco said. This seemed pretty obvious from the game's initial trailer, which showed a young Mitsurugi fighting against an equally young Sophitia and what appeared to be a quick montage of the story playing backward. The game once again has the 8-way movement system that Soulcalibur is know for, as well as a new gameplay system called Reversal Edge which enables characters to clash against each other and follow-up with counterattacks based on their opponent's actions, like a super that focuses on reading your opponent. Soulcalibur VI is scheduled for release in 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
