Apple Discontinues iPod Nano And Shuffle, iPod Touch Gets A Storage Bump

Apple has removed the iPod nano and iPod shuffle from its website and online store, leaving only the iPod touch in its iPod line-up. This isn’t a surprise as after sales peaked at 54.8 million units in 2008, only 2.6 million iPods were sold in the fourth quarter of 2014. Sales have dropped more, though Apple has grouped iPod sales under its "Other Products" category since then. The first generation iPod nano was introduced on Septemeber 7, 2005, as a replacement for the iPod mini. It was last updated in October 2012. The first iPod shuffle was announced at the Macworld Conference & Expo on January 11, 2005. As for the lone iPod Touch, Apple has now updated the storage to a 32GB model for $199 and 128GB and $299.

Apple Gives Life To The Entire iPod Line Up

Today Apple revealed a brand new iPod Touch and announced a bunch of new color options for the entire iPod line. The new iPod Touch includes an 8 MP camera and an improved front facing HD camera, along with the Apple A8 processor. The A8 is the same processor currently found nestled in the innards of the iPhone 6. The new colors for the iPod line are space gray, silver, gold, blue and pink. The announcement from Apple confirms an earlier report that Apple accidentally revealed its new iPod lineup in the new iTunes 12 update. Pricing for the new iPod Touch begins at $200 US for the 16GB model, $250 for 32GB, and $300 for the 64GB. Apple is also offering the iPod Touch for the first time with 128GB of storage which will cost $400.

Are New iPod Colors Coming Soon ?

Apple released iTunes 12.2 yesterday with Apple Music and Beats 1 integration and as per usual, enthusiasts have managed to find traces of unreleased products. Hidden device graphics uncovered by MacRumors depicts new color options for iPods, including a gold iPod nano and a brighter pink iPod shuffle. It’s unclear if the unreleased devices are coming, if they might offer only new color options, but additional assets suggest the new colors will be applied across the lineup. In addition to a gold iPod nano, the assets suggest that a dark blue variant of the iPod touch and a brighter pink version of the iPod shuffle may be in the works. Apple usually refreshes iPods in September so could we see iPod’s later this year ? Last time we saw a new iPod was in October 2012 with the 5th generation iPod touch. Also the $49 iPod shuffle was last updated in September 2012 along with iPod nano. Why would Apple be doing this ? Was the iPod data just there for show ? Does Apple still care bout the iPod ? What do you think ?

Is The iPod Shuffle The Next iPod To Be Discontinue ?

Back in September, Apple quietly stop selling the iPod Classic. Now only a few days into 2015, it looks like the iPod shuffle could be the next product to go. On the Apple website, iPod shuffle orders aren’t shipping for 7-10 business days. At the same time, only a few Apple retail store locations currently have the device in stock. Apple has warned its retail employees that Shuffle supplies will be short for an unspecified period of time and that customers seeking to buy a Shuffle via a retail store should be directed to Apple’s online store. First introduced in 2005, the iPod shuffle was last updated in 2010.
