CVS Launches Its Own Mobile Payment System, CVS Pay

CVS has launched its own mobile payment solution. CVS Pay will show a barcode on the phone screen that the pharmacy can scan so you can make a purchase. As long as you have a credit or a debit card link to it, you’ll be good to go. You can also present the barcode to pick up prescriptions that you can refill and manage in the app. CVS Pay lives within the company's Pharmacy app. If you live in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, you either have to download the app or update it to start using the payment service. You'll still get access to the feature even if you don't live in any of those locations, though you might have to wait a few months, as it's not scheduled for a nationwide rollout until later in the year. CVS And Rite Aid Disable Apple Pay At Stores

Pharmacy chains CVS and Rite Aid have disabled Apple Pay from working at their stores across the U.S. A spokeswoman for Rite Aid said that the company does not currently accept Apple Pay and that the company was still in the process of evaluating mobile payment options. Apple declined to comment on the actions from both stores. However, chief emerging payments officer at MasterCard Ed McLaughlin said that consumers should have the ability to pay any way they want and that the company looks forward to turning on the functionality back on in their stores. Apple Pay launched last week and is accepted at over 200,000 locations in the U.S. Rite Aid and CVS competitor Walgreens has been one of the biggest supporters of Apple Pay, as the feature is available at many of its over 8,000 stores around the United States.
