79% Of iPhone Users Want Touch ID On Future Models

Wearing face masks has been mandatory throughout 2020, It has hindered the face recognition technology of newer iPhones, and users have been struggling to get their phones unlocked while in a public setting, according to SellCell.

The site has checked in with iPhone users to understand how they are dealing with the situation, whether they would like to see Touch ID make a comeback, and more. For this survey, SellCell collected responses from more than 2,000 U.S.-based iPhone owners with an iPhone X or newer models. Key takeaways from the survey:

• 74% reveal they have had trouble with Face ID in a public setting, as opposed to 26% who say otherwise.
  
• When asked how frustrated they were with Face ID not working as intended while wearing masks, here were the responses: Extremely frustrated (19%), Very frustrated (27%), Slightly frustrated (38%), and Not at all frustrated (16%).
  
• More than three in 10 (32.6%) admit to removing their face mask to help Face ID recognize their face.
  
• When it comes to temporary workarounds to the situation, 64.8% switched to passcode lock, 17% reconfigured Face ID with a mask on, 10.9% disabled all forms of screen lock, and 7.3% used a backup phone when outside.
  
• 35% are holding off on buying the new iPhone 12 models because it lacks a fingerprint scanner.
  
• 79% want the future iPhones to come with a Touch ID feature in some form.
  
• When asked what additional security feature they would like to see in the upcoming iPhones, “in-display fingerprint reader” topped the list with 56.2% votes, followed by “Touch ID power button’ at 14.1% and “Iris scanner” at 9.7%. Other responses included “Voice Unlock” (6.9%), “Trusted devices-based lock” (6.1%), ‘On-body detection” (4%), “Trusted location-based lock” (2%), and “Pattern lock” (1.1%).
  
• 23.3% of iPhone users revealed they would switch to an Android phone with a fingerprint scanner the next time they upgrade.

New iPhone Schematic Shows Touch ID On Back Of Phone + More

A new image has appeared online and is believed to be a preview of the iPhone 8 design with vertically stacked dual cameras and a rear Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The schematic was shared on Twitter by Sonny Dickson and features a cut out on the backside presumably used for Touch ID. The new iPhone 8 is expected to have a larger 5.8-inch OLED display with a near bezel-less design with a smaller casing than the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. Check out the latest alleged schematic leak below. This would be a drastic change for the iPhone if this design is true. It would also line up with recently released Android phones. Thoughts ?

Apple Pay Now Supports American Express US Corporate Cards

American Express announced Apple Pay support for its U.S. corporate credit cards, which will allow more businesses to begin making use of the mobile payment technology. Supported cards include the Corporate Green, Gold, Platinum, Centurion, Business Extra, and Defined Expense Program options.

iPad Pro Case Leaks Online, Suggests A Fall Release

Several new cases designed for Apple's “iPad Pro” have been leaked, and one in particular is far more detailed than any we’ve previously seen. Recent rumors point towards the iPad Pro's screen measuring between 12.2- and 12.9-inches, with the expected array of cutouts for the volume rockers, back-facing camera, lock button, and a charging port. The newly leaked cases have cutouts for all of these features, including what appear to be speakers at both the top and bottom of the device, in line with previous rumors surrounding the tablet. The new cases also include the mysterious cutout on the left side of the device. Some previous rumored cases have included the cutout, with rumors variously suggesting it could be for a SIM-card tray on cellular models, a second Lightning port, or perhaps a USB-C port. The latest rumors say that the iPad Pro will have a triple-core A8X processor, 2 GB of RAM, Touch ID, and possibly shipping with a first-party Apple manufactured stylus accessory. A release date is unknown but rumors suggest production could begin in September, setting up for an October launch alongside a refresh of the existing iPad lineup.

Apple Announces iPad Air 2

Today Apple announced the iPad Air 2, which uses 2nd generation 64 bit architecture, with the equivalent of 3 billion transistors, resulting in a 40% faster CPU and 2.5 times faster GPU. New features of the iPad Air 2 include a new motion sensing and a barometer. The camera is also updated, with an 8MP iSight camera, 2.4 aperture, and faster processing in the M8 chip. Also time lapse and slow motion get added to the iPads camera. The iPad Air 2 also has a new front facing camera, with HDR, improved face detection, and HDR photos. Wi-Fi has been upgraded as well, and faster LTE has been added also.Touch ID will also be coming to the iPad Air 2, letting this new iPad work with Apple Pay for online purchases and the iTunes and App Store. The iPad Air 2 prices are the following, $499 for 16GB, $599 for 64GB and the 128GB model is $699. Cellular versions are $629 for 16GB, $729 for 64GB and $829 for 128GB. iOS 8.1 Beta 1 Now Available For Developers Includes Apple Pay

Hot off the release of the iOS 8.0.2 update, Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 8.1. The beta is presumably focuses on bug fixes and feature improvements to iOS. iOS 8.1 beta 1 software is limited to those registered with the official Apple Developer Program. Registered developers can log into the iOS Dev Center and find the appropriate IPSW files to update their test devices with. iOS 8.1 beta will run on all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices that are capable of running iOS 8. A hidden settings pane for Apple Pay has been discovered inside the beta. The pane will allow users to manage their entered credit and debit cards linked to Apple Pay, as well as define their default card, billing and shipping address, email, and phone associated with the card. Apple Pay will allow users to easily authenticate payments to their preferred credit and debit cards, using NFC for point of sale transactions with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and Apple Watch while also allowing for Touch ID-based authentication of purchase transactions in apps supporting Apple Pay. Apple has announced that Apple Pay will be launching in October, and iOS 8.1 is likely to be the update carrying the support for Apple Pay. While Apple has so far only announced that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and Apple Watch will be compatible with Apple Pay, evidence in the beta suggesting next generation iPad models will include Touch ID support meaning  Apple Pay could make it way to iPads.
