Gameinfomer recently took a trip to Treyarch Studios to talk about all thing Call of Duty : Black Ops 4. They spoke with co-studio head Dan Bunting and Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar about the battle royale mode, explaining how it pays tribute to the Black Ops universe, how vehicles work, and more the BIG question of how many people are squaring off in a single Blackout match?
Well there will be 80 players in BlackOut, during the beta anyway. Things could change during it’s release or post release. Bunting admits that though Treyarch had tested internally with 100 players, the studio is putting the quality of gameplay first over hitting an arbitrary number. “What’s really more important to us than a number is that the gameplay experience is as refined as it can be, that’s it the ideal perfect format for what players are going to play,” he says. “So we’re starting with 80 players, but we’ve gone higher than that. Whenever we launch a game as a beta or whatever, that’s the beginning of something. We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in. So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.”
So there it is, Blackout will be 20 players lighter than other BR modes. I’m in the camp of as long as it’s fun I don’t really care about the player count. Call of Duty : Black Ops 4 releases on October 12 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

With Black Ops 4 finally revealed we now have confirmation that the game won’t have a single player campaign, and it looks like that was the plan all along Speaking with Eurogamer, Treyarch co-studio head Dan Bunting said it wasn't so much that a campaign was being built and ultimately tossed aside, but more that it was never part of the plan. "Going back to the very beginning of Black Ops 4 development, we never had set out to make a traditional campaign," Bunting said. From the start, the Black Ops IIII set out to make something different that was tailored to the response players had to Black Ops III. Of course, this meant leaning more into the multiplayer offerings, but also experiment with the overall structure of the game. "Throughout the course of development we tried a lot of ideas, a lot of things that challenged convention, that might be a different kind of twist on how we might think of a Call of Duty game in the past, or a Black Ops game in the past," Bunting said. "As we did that, some things make it, some things don't." Bunting is aware that many people play Call of Duty games for their campaigns, and acknowledges the fears. "I think change is always going to be hard for people," he told Eurogamer. There are solo missions players can undertake to learn more about the backstory of the individual character classes, which also act as an introduction to the game itself. How this does on the sales charts renames to be seen, but it’s fair to say that there’s something for everyone with Black Ops 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The reveal for Black Ops 4 was a few days ago and some are wondering whether the game will make its way onto the Nintendo Switch. However that seems very unlikely now. Yale Miller, senior producer at Treyarch and Matt Scronce, gameplay designer at Treyarch, stated that they have no plans to bring the next installment of the Call of Duty series to the Nintendo Switch.
During the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 community event we learned that the game won’t feature a traditional single-player campaign. However, players will be able to engage with some other modes that have traditionally been limited to multiplayer as solo players, as well as embrace a story that takes place between Black Ops 2 and 3 via single-player missions that focus on multiplayer specialist training.
Black Ops 4 features "boots on the ground" combat for those familiar with the franchise. There won't be any boosting around or wall running in this Call of Duty. Instead, weapons get some additional time in the spotlight, each weapon will have unique attachments, including an operator mod. Operator mods add differentiation to each weapon. The game features Predictive recoil, meaning you can learn exactly how a gun is going to respond and master a weapon's kick. Healing is NOT automatic unlike how it is in most other Call of Duty titles, and must be manually initiated, leaving you vulnerable to attack as your heal ticks up. Some specialists, like the medic, can assist with healing on the fly. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is releasing on PC via Blizzard’s Battle.net platform, the first for the series and the only game other than Destiny to currently share the presents of Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and more. This has exciting prospects for social support and systems, and uncapped framerate.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches with 3 different zombie modes. This is a brand new zombie storyline with new characters that draws upon both real and mythological history. Zombie modes feature a 4-player cast as is the standard, but now there are a slew of customization options and a difficulty selection option. You’ll be able to play with bots and make your way through the horde if you don’t have anyone else to play with. If the default difficulty of zombie modes turned you off in the past, you can now select a range of difficulty options to make the undead less of a threat. Zombie players can now use sharable codes that let them handle the same challenge and compete for the best scores. In addition, constant updates are scheduled to roll out to zombie mode over time, including seasonal events known as callings. In one map, we see our protagonists battling in a gladiatorial arena with melee weapons against a swarm of zombies. The protagonists use maces, swords, and more as a giant boss zombie bursts into the fray. Treyarch didn’t comment on any details on this mode but it looks like this map may only feature melee weapons only. Next is the map Voyage of Despair, which takes place on the Titanic. Things go a slightly different than the historical iceberg tragedy as a heist turns into an insane barrage of the undead on the ship as the crew are turning into abominations. The last zombie mode is called Blood of the Dead, which features the original crew from the past few Treyarch zombies mode. We see them in Alcatraz (Mob of the Dead from Black Ops 2) in an ominous hallway after a candle goes out. Not much else is known expect that this will be a remake of Mob of the Dead.
Last but not least Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode (current player support is unknown) is Blackout. This mode features a map 1,500 times larger than your typical Call of Duty multiplayer map alongside characters from the entire Black Ops franchise. Even more interesting is that this mode includes ground, sea and air vehicles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 may not have a traditional single-player campaign, but they certainly seem to be making up for it with all the content they have shown. We’ll see what happens on October 12.
We already know that Black Ops 4 is coming later this year to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A Nintendo Switch version of the game hasn’t been announced by Activision, but GameStop may have jumped the gun a little early as they have put up display cases for a Nintendo Switch version of Black Ops 4. Thoughts ? Guess will know whats going on on Thursday during the Black Ops 4 community event.

Treyarch teased the mode on Twitter while responding to a tweet which said "In Treyarch We Trust," with a photo hinting at the return of Pick 10.
