Yooka-Laylee On Nintendo Switch Runs At 900p Docked And 600p In Handheld Mode

IGN has reported that Yooka-Laylee will run at 900p in docked mode, and 600p in handheld mode for the Nintendo Switch. The site also says that the team over at Playtonic have worked directly with Nintendo and Unity to optimise the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Yooka-Laylee finally comes to the Nintendo Switch on December 14.

Yooka-Laylee Coming To Nintendo Switch On December 14th

Playtonic has confirmed that Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch is finally arriving on December 14th. Here’s what the team had to say on the official blog:
“Available to pre-order from the Nintendo eShop from December 7, Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch features a shed-load of polish and updates, including single-JoyCon play across all eight multiplayer games, a custom Achievement system, plus the ability to take our collecting duo on the go without the need for extravagant extension leads!
The Playtonic team has spent many, many months optimising Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch (with technical help and support from Nintendo and Unity themselves!) and we believe we’re delivering a version Nintendo fans can be proud of.
Players can expect a quality experience both on and away from the television and on top of that, Switch players will benefit from the huge list of updates we’ve added since launch such as a brand new camera mode, control improvements, menu options, music… and a lot more!

To celebrate the announcement, we’ve launched a fan art competition on our Facebook and Twitter pages to win one of three ultra-rare 64-Bit Editions. Click across for a chance to enter!”

Playtonic Says Unity Engine Causing Delay For Yooka-Laylee On Switch

Playtonic has given fans an update on Yooka-Laylee for the Nintendo Switch. It seems that the Unity engine is causing them to have some technical difficulties. The developers have explained the issue below.
“The Playtonic team has been working tirelessly to bring Yooka-Laylee to Nintendo Switch and we’re very nearly there (we promise!) However, we’ve encountered some final technical hurdles and had been waiting for the arrival of Unity 5.6 in order to fix them. Although this has now been released, it has unfortunately introduced other issues which we are working with Unity to resolve before we can submit to Nintendo and lock in our release timeline.

We understand the frustration that it’s taken so long to get the game in your hands but we hope that you understand that we’re working as fast as we can and want the game to perform as well as it possibly can on Switch. Once these remaining issues are resolved we hope to finally be able to commit to and share a launch date. Thanks as ever for your patience and please bear with us – we are getting there!”

Here’s Why Playtonic Cancelled The Wii U Version Of Yooka-Laylee

Playtonic has recently cancelled the Wii U version of Yooka-Laylee. While a version of Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo’s console was promised in their original Kickstarter, the game is no longer coming to the Wii U. However, they have since elaborated as to why they had to make this difficult decision. On their recently updated FAQ page, the company revealed that they had been working for months to try and get the game to run correctly on the system, but could never get it working quite right. Check out their official statement below. “The Playtonic team wanted to explore every possible avenue before making the very difficult decision to transfer development from the Wii U. Our developers worked tirelessly over many months in attempt to solve our technical issues, but unfortunately it’s not been possible to bring Yooka-Laylee to Wii U as originally planned.”

Yooka-Laylee Releasing On April 11th, Releasing On Nintendo Switch Instead Of Wii U

Developer Team17 has announced platformer Yooka-Laylee will be released on April 11 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders are now available for $39.99 for non-Kickstarter backers in both digital and physical formats from all participating stores worldwide. The team has decided to cancel the Wii U version of the game and is instead developing a Switch release. The team says they’ve encountered unforeseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for them to release the game on Wii U as initially planned. They go on to say that they are now working very closely with Nintendo to look to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch. We’re looking forward to exploring the opportunity and will have more details to share early next year.
