Discord Support Comes To Xbox

According to a blog post on the official Xbox website, the long-awaited Discord update will begin trickling out to Xbox Insiders. You'll be able to establish group conversations using voice channels, just like in the desktop software, to interact with PC and mobile gamers. But how can you activate Discord communication when the chance arises? See the directions in the post below.

  • Open the Xbox guide, go to Parties & Chats, and click Try Discord Voice on Xbox
  • From there, scan the QR code, which will take you to the Discord and Xbox apps. Set up a two-way link between your Discord and Xbox accounts. If you've done this before, you'll have to re-link.
  • A new option to Join on Xbox will appear on the Discord mobile app. You'll also need to download the Xbox app to transfer your voice chat from Discord to your specified Xbox console.
  • Once the transfer has occurred, you can hop into a voice channel to hang with friends.

You Can Now Link Your PlayStation Account With Discord

PS4 and PS5 owners can now connect their PSN accounts to Discord. To begin, this means you'll be able to share your PlayStation game progress on your Discord profile and let your friends know what you're up to. You can also include your PSN ID on your Discord profile if you want to make it easier for people to add you as a friend.

To get started, open the Discord app or website on your PC or mobile device, then head to the User Settings —> Connections. You'll notice a PlayStation symbol if you can link your PSN account. You might not have access right now, since Discord is progressively releasing the functionality to everyone, starting with those in the United States.

Discord Would Like To Work With Nintendo On Voice Chat

When it comes to voice chat on the Nintendo Switch it’s pretty limited and you need to access the Nintendo Switch Online app on your mobile device to use it. Many people these days use Discord to communicate with others online while gaming. Glixel caught up with Discord founder and CEO Jason Citron to talk about the popular service and whether he would like to bring it to the Nintendo Switch.

“I have thought about the Switch. I have spent many hundreds of hours of my life in that little screen. If Nintendo wants us to power their voice chat, we’d be happy to talk.”

Discord Adding "Rich Presence" For Joining And Spectating Games

Discord has announced "Rich Presence" features for the gaming chat app, allowing players to join players, spectate, and check out where their friends are in the game. You can now ask to join someone's game by checking their profile. For example with Call of Duty: WWII, you can click someone's profile and then ask to jump into a game with them right there. For some games, it even shows where in the game someone is, similar to presence data on consoles. “Rich Presence removes the friction PC gamers often feel when joining game sessions with their friends, “ says Discord CEO Jason Citron. “It gives players a clear at-a-glance understanding of what their friends are playing, how they are playing it, where they are in the game, and a one-click way to jump in and join.”  Developers ned to opt-in for this, so not every game is going to support it right out of the gate. The initial list includes Call of Duty: WWII, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and Payday 2, with more games to come.

Discord Offering Verified Servers For Games Like PUBG And Minecraft

Discord is becoming the destination for not only voice chat, but also general community hang-outs and messaging among gamers. The app is taking another step forward on this path by launching official servers for games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Minecraft, Supercell, and Offworld. The official servers are run, managed, and moderated by the developers themselves. This lets them communicate with players, self-police abusive, and try to shape the community in better ways. Developers or publishers interested in signing up for a verified channel can do so on Discord's official website.

Discord Testing Video Calls And Screen Sharing

Discord has made a name for itself as an all in one voice chat app for PC gamers, but now it’s adding streaming video. The company says it's rolling out video chat to a small number of users to test its tech in advance of a wide release.  The test will allow participants to make video calls with all Discord users, regardless of whether they were picked. Users can choose to share their screens or webcam feeds, and drag the video feed anywhere within the app. A full release is said to be a month or so away, so be patient.
