Sony To Release Over 5 Mobile Games By March 2018

Sony has revealed that it's developing over 5 new games for iOS and Android. According to CNBC, the games will be released during a year ending March 2018, under Sony's mobile-oriented ForwardWorks subsidiary. Titles and content aren't public, but Sony will initially launch in Japan and other Asian countries. This seems to be Sonys effort to try and compete in the mobile market, (mainly because of Pokemon GO and Super Mario Run IMO). Thoughts ?

Did You Purchase A PS3 Before 2010? Sony May Owe You Some Money

Because of a class-action lawsuit, if you’ve purchased an original/fat PlayStation 3 between November 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010, you can now submit a claim to receive up to $55 cash payment back from Sony. Sony was sued back in 2010 after potential security issues, it updated the PlayStation software to remove the "Other OS" function from the early console model. The Other OS allowed users to set aside a part of the console's hard drive to install Linux. According to a settlement notice released today, "SCEA denies that it did anything wrong. The Court has not decided who is right in the lawsuit." That said, in June Sony and the plaintiffs reached a settlement axgreement (via Ars Technica) where it would pay back eligible customers. Those who are Class Members have 2 ways to file to receive payments. First, those who actually used the Other OS feature and submit a claim with proof of purchase within the required dates are entitled to $55, paid in full by Sony. Those who submit a claim with proof of purchase and "attest that they intended to use the Other OS function, lost value or desired functionality, or believe they were otherwise injured" are entitled to $9. Better late then never I suppose. Thoughts ?

Former SCEA CEO Says The PS Vita Was A Great Machine, But It Was Too Late

Former CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton,  recently spoke with IGN about his time with PlayStation and weighed in with his thoughts on the struggles of the PlayStation Vita. "Now that I don't work there anymore, I think internally it was: 'This is a great machine, it's just too late.' The world has shifted to portable devices that aren't dedicated gaming machines" said Tretton. Tretton went to highlight the success of the PlayStation Portable, it not only brought console like experiences to handheld, but also pulling in older gamers. What are your thoughts on the PS Vita ? I’ve enjoyed my Vita, I just wish there were more triple A titles on the system like God of War on the PSP.

Sony CEO Praises Pokemon GO, Says Company Will Aggressively Enter Mobile Gaming

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has recently talked about the company’s mobile plans in an interview with the Financial Times. Hirai announced that Sony will be “aggressively” entering the mobile business as well. He said that “it’s quite a shift from being just a console based business to being on mobile phones as well”. Kaz Hirai also gave Pokemon GO credit for how the app works. Hirai said that “Pokemon Go is a real game-changer. I’m very interested in the fact that it has the potential to really change the way people move, literally”. He also complimented the augmented reality that makes Pokemon look like they’re in the real world, calling it a “great innovative idea that’s going to lift all boats for the video game industry”. It apparently inspired Hirai, because he says he wants AR components to be in Sony’s games. Thoughts ?

Say Hello To Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony corporation has announced it’s merging Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment under a new name. The new company is called Sony Interactive Entertainment and is based in San Mateo, California. Sony Sending PS Plus Extensions To Players Due To PSN Outage

On January 4, the PlayStation Network went down on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. Now Sony is sending out a voucher code for PlayStation Plus for an extra day. The voucher code will add a day onto the end of your current subscription. Your PS Plus account had to be active on January 4 to qualify for the extension. You also have to make sure you redeem your code before March 31. The gesture is nice but I feel like Sony should maybe do a little more like a $5 coupon for the PS Store. What do you think ?

There Are 100+ VR Titles Currently In Development For Playstation VR

In an interview with the BBC, CEO Kaz Hirai confirmed that there are "about 100 or more" titles already in development for PlayStation VR. He also added that the 200 developers who had already signed up to the company's PlayStation VR Program were "a testament to the kind of support that we're getting from the content creation community on PlayStation VR". "I think we have a lot of good support," he said, "and it'll be a great product coming out later this year." Hirai also believes that the advance of virtual reality through video games will likely impact into other entertainment products, including movies. "With the install base of the PlayStation 4 close to 36 million units, that there in of itself is a huge audience we're going to cater to, and once we have a lot of people who are really into virtual reality through games I think then we'll be able to expand beyond gaming, especially because we have a lot of content that we create ourselves at Sony Pictures Entertainment." What do you think of VR ?

PS2 Emulation Is Coming To PS4

The rumors are true as Sony has confirmed that they are working on bring PlayStation 2 emulation to the PlayStation 4. A Sony representative recently told the WIRED the following statement, ”We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation," "We have nothing further to comment at this point in time." Bonus content included in the Star Wars Battlefront PlayStation 4 bundle (Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfight, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter) appear to be running on proprietary emulation software. The PS4 emulator will mimic the original software of the PlayStation 2, enabling you to run PS2 games. It’s unknown if will be able to use PS2-based discs on a PS4, or if the emulation will allow us to play purchased PS2 titles from the PSN. Regardless this is exciting news for PS4 users. What’s one PS2 game you would like to play on your PS4 ?

PlayStation Collectible Cards Will Be Given Out At PlayStation Experience

Remember those playing cards that Sony gave away at last year’s PlayStation Experience ? Well Sony has announced that it will be releasing the cards as a collectible card game at this year's PlayStation Experience. The PlayStation Collectible Cards are described on the PlayStation blog as being like baseball cards for video games - "with way more aliens, superheroes, mechs, and tentacles." The first 35 cards of the series will be released at PlayStation Experience in December, but Sony says there are 66 in total if you count the rare and common versions of certain cards. Sony admits it'll be next to impossible for anyone to collect them all. I guess there is always eBay. In other to get the cards at you’ll simply to play some games at the event. Sony didn't reveal which booths or events the cards will be given away and will be in limited supply. It looks like these cards will be event exclusive, which sucks for those of us who can’t attend the event. The only way the rest of us will be able get are hands on these cards is by paying an obscene amount of money on eBay, unfortunately. What do you think of Sony doing this ? Seems like a nice way to celebrate Playstation Experience, but as I said sucks for the rest of us who want the cards and can’t attend.

Shooter Players Are Switching To PS4

Sony has secured third-party partnerships with a number of big shooter franchises this year, including Destiny, StarWars: Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. They have even created special edition consoles for all 3 games and PS4 has been featured in the TV advertising. PlayStation group marketing manager Lauren Bradley said “This generation, the shooter audience is tending to switch over to PS4, so we’ve got high expectations for Star Wars Battlefront around both launch and into next year.” It does seem like more people have chosen to play shooters on PlayStatin this time around. I think the biggest faction is the is that The Call of Duty DLC partnership has switched sides this generation. What do you think ?

PS4 Players Will Soon Be Able To Purchase Avatars

Starting next week, PS4 players will be able to purchase avatars on their consoles. Sony expects PS3 avatars to transfer over to PS4 sometime soon. This incoming update was recently included in a survey that Sony sent out asking PS4 players what they wanted to see in PS4 update 4.0. Other options included the ability to change PSN IDs, online friends notifications, custom backgrounds, appearing offline, and PS1 and PS2 classics. Wonder when we’ll be able to see the other choices in that survey. What do you think of having the ability to purchase avatars on PS4?
