Android 12 GO Edition Will Make Phones Faster And More Efficient

Android 12 Go Edition has been announced by Google. According to the company, the OS for low-cost phones would make your smartphone up to 30% faster when it launches in 2022. This builds on Google's prior 20% improvement with Android 11 Go Edition. The launch animations have also been smoothed out, according to the company.

If you're short on space, a new feature in the operating system lets you save both battery life and storage by hibernating apps you don't use very often. You can also utilize Files Go to remove something safely and then restore it after 30 days. Meanwhile, Nearby Share has received an upgrade that allows you to save data by transferring apps between devices. Separately, if you ever need to translate a webpage, a newly added shortcut on the recent applications interface can help you do so quickly.

Android 12 Go Edition is all about privacy features, in addition to performance tweaks. The privacy dashboard from Android 12 is now available in Go Edition. It allows you to see all of the permissions that your apps have and revoke them as needed. You'll also be able to check if your phone's microphone or camera are turned on thanks to new privacy indicators in the status bar. With the update, you'll be able to restrict apps to simply viewing your approximate position rather than your precise location. You may now create a temporary guest account directly from the lock screen if you ever want to let someone use your device. When they're finished, Android Go Edition 12 will immediately reset your phone.

Apple Releases Tracker Detect To Protect Android Users From Unwanted AirTags

Apple has released Tracker Detect, an Android app that can enable people who don't have an iOS device figure out whether someone is tracking their whereabouts with an AirTag or other Find My-compatible gadget. When the software detects an
AirTag that has been removed from its owner, it marks it as a "Unknown AirTag." You can use the app to configure the tracker to play a sound if it follows you for 10 minutes, making it simpler to find. You can then tap the device with your NFC-enabled phone to receive instructions on how to remove the device's battery or disable it in other ways.

“AirTag provides industry-leading privacy and security features and today we are extending new capabilities to Android devices. Tracker Detect gives Android users the ability to scan for an AirTag or supported Find My enabled item trackers that might be traveling with them without their knowledge,” an Apple spokesperson told Engadget. “We are raising the bar on privacy for our users and the industry, and hope others will follow.”

Following various incidences of malicious actors utilizing AirTags to stalk people, Tracker Detect was released. For example, authorities in Canada recently issued a warning about thieves employing the $29 device to steal luxury cars. Apple upgraded its trackers in June to play a sound between eight and 24 hours after they're separated from their user, rather than three days as was the case at launch, in an effort to limit abuse.

The effectiveness of Tracker Detect in protecting people is dependent on the number of people who download it. Unlike iOS, which issues proactive warnings when improper AirTags are detected, you must install this app on your Android device. Its security features aren't yet included into Android.

Niantic Announces Changes To Pokemon GO

Niantic has given Pokemon GO players a heads-up that they will be bringing in changes to the popular smartphone app after some countries in the world have starting opening up. The company said on the official Pokemon GO site that they will only remove temporary bonuses introduced last year after Pokemon GO Fest 2021 next month. The company is currently targeting users in the United States and New Zealand with the new policies and they appear to be gradually planning to revert the app back to pre-covid times as it used to be so stepping outdoors, exploring, meeting others, and generally having a fun time. Here’s all the details direct from the site:

Exploration Bonus Updates Coming to Pokémon GO

“Today, as some parts of the world are moving toward recovery, we’re announcing:

  • New exploration bonuses that make it more rewarding to play outside are coming over the next several months, including bonuses for spinning stops, playing at in-person raids, and getting in those steps.
  • Bonuses introduced last year that we plan to remove or change, tested first in the U.S. and New Zealand, followed by other countries and regions based on local conditions.
  • Bonuses introduced last year that we are planning on keeping, including first catch of the day bonuses, GO Battle League and Trainer Battle requirements, and more.

We’ll only remove temporary bonuses introduced last year after Pokémon GO Fest 2021, starting in the United States and New Zealand. We wanted to give you an advance heads up of what’s coming and our thinking behind it, as we said last November.

We’re committed to doing this in a staggered way, when it makes sense for each place in the world, to help people play safely. As we return to the outside world again, these changes are aimed at restoring the focus of Pokémon GO on movement and exploration in the real world. These changes will be introduced slowly and carefully to make it more exciting to explore the world around you.

New exploration bonuses for playing together in the real world

Starting at the end of July, the following exploration bonuses will roll out to Trainers for testing first in the U.S. and New Zealand. Trainers will:

  • Receive up to two free Raid Passes per day from spinning Gym Photo Discs.
  • Benefit from increased Incense effectiveness while moving.
  • Be guaranteed gifts when spinning PokéStops so long as they have not reached their maximum gift inventory.
  • Receive 10x bonus XP from spinning a PokéStop for the first time.

These bonuses will end when the Season of Discovery wraps up September 1, 2021. Some of these bonuses may stay rolling into the following season, and new bonuses will become available as well.

We’ll make these bonuses available in other countries and regions as it’s safe to do so. We understand that every place is different. Rest assured, we will be monitoring the situation and activating appropriate bonuses when and where available. Because of this, Trainers may experience different bonuses at different times. To see which exploration bonuses are available to you, check out your Today View.

Bonuses introduced last year that we plan to remove or change

Over the next few months, we’re planning to remove or change some of the bonuses introduced last year. We will not make these changes until after Pokémon GO Fest in July, and we will remove them first as a test in the U.S. and New Zealand starting at the end of July. We will remove or change them on a rolling basis in other countries and regions over time, and at the same time introduce new exploration bonuses.

  • Over the past year, Incense effectiveness was increased to attract Pokémon to you more frequently, even if you weren’t able to leave home. After the change, this effectiveness will be set at the standard level when you’re stationary and increased effectiveness will kick in when you are moving.
  • Previously, your Buddy Pokémon brought you more Gifts each day, up to five gifts at once and up to three times a day. This was because we knew Trainers were running low on supplies like Poké Balls and berries to help them catch Pokémon. As we move to encouraging Trainers to play outside more, they can continue to receive supplies from spinning PokéStops. After the change, the frequency of these gifts from Buddy Pokémon will be reduced.
  • Previously, PokéStop and Gym interaction distances were increased, to enable people to engage from further away. After this change the distance will revert back to the standard distance, when it makes sense in different places, though may be increased during future events and as part of certain features.

Remote Raids have become an important part of the game this past year and we’re going to continue evolving them. Our intention is to find the right balance between remote play and in-person play, so stay tuned for more details in the coming months. Many of these in-person raid changes will be to prepare for the eventual return of EX Raids.

Bonuses introduced last year that we are planning on keeping

Some of the changes that were introduced in the past year resonated well with our Trainers and will provide continued value as countries and regions begin to open back up. These changes will remain as standard parts of the game for the foreseeable future, some of which were previously announced:

  • Incense duration will remain at 60 minutes.
  • No walking requirement for GO Battle League.
  • You can challenge any Trainer remotely with a QR Code, and the requirement to battle with friends remotely has been lowered to Good Friends.
  • The maximum number of Gifts you can carry in your Item Bag at a time will remain at 20.
  • Trainers will be able to open up to 30 Gifts per day, up from the previous 20.
  • You will continue to receive three times the Stardust and XP for your first Pokémon catch of the day.”

Cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and mobile devices is planned, which will allow players on both platforms to battle together. Additionally, players may use their Pokémon Trainer Club account or Nintendo Account on both Nintendo Switch and mobile to easily keep their progress synced between devices.

  • The Rules of Unite Battles – Unite Battles are where Trainers and their partner Pokémon compete in 5-on-5 team battles. The key to victory in a Unite Battle is to have a higher score than the other team when time runs out. To earn points for your team, you must gather Aeos energy by defeating wild and opposing Pokémon and then deposit that energy in one of the opposing team’s goal zones. Unite Battles take place in various stadiums, and the rules for each stadium differ. There can be different numbers of team members, different match lengths, and even different Legendary Pokémon that appear.
  • Face Off against Skilled Teams – In Unite Battles, cooperating with teammates is important. When battling a skilled team or when at a disadvantage, you might be able to open a path to victory by coordinating with teammates. In ranked matches, you can earn performance points, which can increase—or decrease—your ranking depending on the results of the battle. When just starting out, you’ll battle at the Beginner Cup level and begin making your journey to Master Cup. Additionally, those who become ranked will be recorded on a global ranking board for all the world to see.
  • Level Up – Before every Unite Battle, participating Pokémon are returned to Lv. 1 through the power of Aeos energy, and throughout each battle, they gain Exp. Points and level up. As Pokémon level up, they learn powerful moves and evolve, and when a Pokémon reaches higher levels, it also learns its Unite Move—a powerful move that can only be learned and used in Unite Battles. Unite Moves can change the tide of battle!
  • Battle with a Fresh Look – In Pokémon UNITE, you can change the appearance of your Pokémon and Trainer. Take part in Unite Battles while showing off your own unique style! You can use Holowear, a special technology that uses Aeos energy, to dress your Pokémon in a variety of outfits. You can also customize your Trainer’s appearance, clothing, and accessories to make sure your Trainer always looks their best, both in and out of battle. You can update your profile with a Unite snapshot that features your Trainer’s avatar and partner Pokémon, and you can even customize the snapshot by changing your Trainer’s expression or pose or by adding stickers. Before entering a match, you and other players can see each other’s Unite snapshot, too!
  • Find Your Role – Many different Pokémon, such as Charizard, Pikachu, and Greninja, appear in Pokémon UNITE. Although type strengths and weaknesses do not exist in Unite Battles, each Pokémon has its own unique stats and role—Attacker, Defender, Speedster, Supporter, or All-Rounder—that reflects its play style. You’ll want to practice with various Pokémon to find out which best suit you. To use a Pokémon in Unite Battles, you need to have a Unite license for that Pokémon. Unite licenses can be obtained through the Unite Battle Committee, where you can exchange Aeos coins (earnable via Unite Battles) for your desired license.
  • Enjoy Even More Pokémon UNITE with the Battle Pass – You’ll have the opportunity to earn in-game rewards through the seasonal battle pass. To earn these rewards, you’ll need to level up the pass by completing missions. Additionally, players can upgrade their battle pass by using Aeos gems, enabling them to claim even more rewards.
  • Obtain Items via Shops – Pokémon UNITE has three types of in-game currency: Aeos gems (paid), Aeos coins, and Aeos tickets. Aeos coins and Aeos tickets can be acquired by playing the game. At the Unite Battle Committee, players can use Aeos coins or Aeos gems to obtain Unite licenses, which allow them to take Pokémon into Unite Battles. At Aeos Emporium, players can use Aeos coins or Aeos gems to obtain UBC-approved goods like Pokémon held items or Trainer fashion items (fashion items can also be obtained using Aeos tickets). Zirco Trading specializes in Holowear, which can be obtained using Aeos gems.

FaceTime Coming To Android And PC Via A Web Link

When iOS 15 releases in Fall 2021, it’ll bring some significant upgrades to FaceTime. One of the biggest updates is that
FaceTime will work with Android and Windows 10 PCs thanks to new shareable links Apple will let you send to your friends and family. That same feature will also allow you to schedule calls with your contacts by sending them an invite link ahead of time.

Additionally, there's a feature called "portrait mode" that will blur the background, and an audio toggle that will allow you to decide whether your iPhone's microphone captures just your voice or everything in the background.

Apple is also expanding the scope of FaceTime with a new feature called SharePlay. As the name suggests, SharePlay will allow you and several other people to watch or listen to the same TV show, movie or song simultaneously. iOS 15 launches this fall.

Twitter Testing Full-Sized Image Previews For iOS And Android

On iOS and Android, Twitter currently displays a cropped version of any non-16:9 image on the timeline. The newly announced change, currently being tested, will instead show an image in its full size right inline on the Twitter timeline.

Twitter also announced it is testing the ability for users to upload 4K images on iOS and Android. Users will see a new "High-quality image upload" option on the "Data usage" settings page. Twitter hasn't specified a timeframe for when these changes will roll out.

Among Us Dev Gives Content Road Map

In its latest blog post, Among Us developer InnerSloth first addressed hacking in the game, saying: "Firstly, we want to be sure to talk about the cheating and hacking going on. It was pretty bad there for a bit, so Forte pushed out server changes really fast. They seemed to help a lot, but some cheats still work and now there are bugs too. There will be more server updates to fix all of this, but rushing anti-hacks is what caused the bugs, so cleaning things up is a slower process. Also rest assured that any threats made in the game are false and your devices and data are safe. If you see a hacker, ban them or find a different room."

An anonymous voting option as been added that makes all players greyed out during Emergency Meetings. adding a new layer of intrigue to this deceptive game.

Task Bar modes have also been added:

  • Always
    • Appears like normal
  • Meeting
    • The bar is only updated during meetings
  • Invisible
    • The taskbar is removed entirely

Also added is the ability to clear security logs with Comms sabotage, symbols on the colored wires for those tasks to be more colorblind-friendly, and a slew of bug fixes. The team also teased some larger scale goals

  • Accounts: We’re hoping to get accounts into the game by December. This will allow players to report accounts that are toxic and/or hacking. They may be a bit barebones at first but things like friends lists will also come at a later date after launch.
  • New Map: We’re hard at work on a new map (It’s Henry Stickmin themed!). This map is currently looking bigger than Polus! The map will contain plenty of new tasks and will be available for free to all players!
  • Translations/Localization: The game is currently only translated into a few languages (and some of those translations are a bit rough). We’re planning on getting professional translations into multiple languages (More than we currently have, not ready to share quite which languages yet). To all the people offering to translate, thanks for reaching out, but we’ve got it under control!
  • Colorblind support: This patch contains the first pass on colorblind support. We’ll continue monitoring it to see how it performs.

UPDATE 10/29/20 - Crash Bandicoot: On The Run pre-orders are now live on the App Store. With that, the release date of March 25th, 2021 has been revealed.

Original article 7/13/20 - Crash Bandicoot is coming to mobile with Crash Bandicoot: On the Run from developer King. While delivering a familiar viewpoint of Crash running into the screen, the gameplay appears to be an endless runner like Temple Run.
