Microsoft Holding An Event On September 22

Microsoft is holding its next event on September 22nd, where it will show off the latest Surface hardware. The event starts at 8AM PT / 11AM ET.

A teaser image shows a side-on look at what appears to be a Surface Pro. Microsoft typically holds a hardware-centric event in the fall. On top of that, the event takes place two weeks before Microsoft releases Windows 11. So be prepared for news on new Surface products and Windows 11.

Microsoft Hosting A Surface Event In Shanghai On May 23rd

Microsoft has sent out invites for an event in Shanghai on May 23rd, where it will "show the world what's next." How cryptic, though a tweet from Microsoft's Surface head, Panos Panay, might have spoiled the surprise a bit. We might finally see a follow-up to the Surface Pro 4, as the laptop-tablet hybrid hasn’t seen an update since 2015. Thoughts ?

Microsoft's Surface Laptop Coming In June For $999

Microsoft has announced a new Surface Laptop today ahead of its release on June 15th. Prices start at a $999 for a platinum-colored model with a 13.5-inch touchscreen, Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Full pricing isn’t available yet , but there will be a higher-end Core i5 model with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and the full range of color options (burgundy, blue, gold and platinum). If you get a Core i7, you'll have the choice of 2 platinum-hued models: one with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, and an all-out version with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The Surface Laptop runs Windows 10 S out of the box. Thoughts ?

Microsoft Announces The Surface Book i7

During the Microsoft October event, the company announced the Surface Book i7, a refresh that focuses on power. Giving the name, the new Surface Books has a Core i7, but you also get 2x the graphics performance with a GeForce GTX 965M. There's also a larger battery that promises up to 16 hours of battery life in laptop mode. The Surface Book i7 will cost $2,399 when it ships on November 10th. 

Microsoft Announces The Surface Dial

During the Microsoft October event, the company announced the Surface Dial, a wireless brushed aluminum puck that adds new gestures and functionality to a variety of Surface-friendly apps. It has the ability to quickly flip through document pages like a scroll wheel, adjust screen brightness or audio volume, and rewind through pen strokes like a rotating Ctrl-Z button. But the dial also has the ability to work directly onscreen for additional functions based on the app and the context, like changing paint color without picking up your pen (as seen in the video below). The Surface Dial work with the Surface Studio, Surface Pro 3, Pro 4 and Surface Book (though the on-screen functions will only work with the Studio.) At launch there will be 14 compatible apps, including Sketchable, Spotify and Microsoft Office apps. The Surface Dial is available to pre-order now for $100 and releases on November 10th.

Microsoft Announces The Surface Studio

During the Microsoft October event, the company announced a new desktop iteration of its tablet and laptop line called the Surface Studio. The Surface Studio features a touchscreen and a hinge that allows the 28-inch PixelSense display to be tilted at different angles, offering owners to operate the screen in the position best suited to their work. A Surface Pen is included with the Surface Studio, which features a 6 generation Intel Core i5 with 8GB of RAM (base model) but can go up to an Intel Core i7 and 35GB of RAM. Microsoft has full technical specs available on the Surface Studio's official page. The Studio is set for release on December 15.

Microsoft Rumored To Reveal All-In-One Surface In October

According to ZDNet, Microsoft may introduce an All-in-One Surface device this October during a special fall hardware launch. The device, reportedly codenamed "Cardinal," is supposedly a product that can "turn your desk into a studio.” Also, existing Surface models may well feature faster processors and other minor updates as well, but larger product reveals probably won't make an appearance until spring 2017. Thoughts ? 

Microsoft Is Rumored To Be Working On A Surface Phone

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is moving forwards with plans to develop a new smartphone  being referred to as the "Surface Phone." Hardware specifics regarding the phone are unknown at the moment, with the report saying Microsoft is "currently exploring different technologies." Intel is said to still be involved with the project, and it may have an Intel x86 processor chipset. Does this mean the end of the Lumia phones ? I see this as a way of Microsoft to expand the Surface across there devices. What do you think ? 

The Surface Book Isn’t DIY Friendly

The DIY repair crew at iFixit has torn down Microsoft's Surface Book, and it looks like DIY and the Surface Book don’t go together. Just about everything is glued or soldered, and the "upside down" circuitry means that you'll be yanking out the whole motherboard to access parts. About the only thing you can replace is the solid state drive, and that's provided that you can get the system open. This is disappointing but not surprising as this isn’t anything new as even Apple makes it impossible to change any internal components. What do you think of Microsoft taking this approach ? 

Microsoft Announces The Surface Pro 4

Today at Microsofts briefing event the company revealed the Surface Pro 4. The Surface Pro 4 features a 12.3" screen with a resolution of 267 PPI, meaning there are over 5 million pixels on the screen. The device is 8.4 mm thick with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Microsoft also announced a Surface Pro docking station that is also compatible with the Surface Pro 3 with 4 USB 3.0 ports, 2 DisplayPorts, and an Ethernet port. According to Microsoft, the Surface 4 Pro runs 50% faster than a Macbook Air and prices start at $899, but range up to $2,699. What do you think of the Surface Pro 4 ?

Microsoft Announces Their First Laptop, The Surface Book

Today at Microsofts briefing event the company announced the Surface Book. The Surface Book is Microsofts first  laptop and features a detachable  screen that becomes a tablet and is designed to be like a clipboard. It has a 13.5-inch screen, featuring 267 dpi and 6 million pixels. The Surface Book is set to include an Intel processor and an Nvidia GeForce GPU, GDDR5 memory, and 12 hours of battery life. Microsoft also claims that the Surface Book is 50% faster than the MacBook Pro. The Surface Book will be available for pre-order onOctober 7 and will release on October 26. The Surface Book will cost you $1,499.

Surface 3 tablet with LTE Coming Out On July 24th

Microsoft’s Surface 3 tablet with LTE data will soon be upon us. AT&T has announced that the cellular-equipped Windows Tablet will launch on July 24th for $30 per month on a 20 month Next plan  or $400 if you buy one alongside a Lumia smartphone. This is the basic version of the Surface 3 with 64GB of storage, this hounds great if you’re just looking to check email or stream music before you get to the coffee shop. What do you think ?
