NES Emulator Passes Microsoft Certification For Xbox One (UPDATED)

An NES emulator had been submitted to Microsoft to appear on Xbox One. While it may seem unlikely, but the company has approved the request. The makers of the emulator posted on their Twitter that their application had passed Microsoft’s certification process. It’s really only a matter of time before Nintendo steps in to put a stop to the emulator. Thoughts ?

UPDATE 8/18/16 - Microsoft have put their foot down and have unpublished the emulator. The application has now been pulled from the store. It was taken down as it was submitted as an application for the Xbox One which would have seen Xbox owners having a variety of Nintendo Entertainment System games in the palms of their hands. If it had been published there would have been legal trouble between the 2 companies.

The rumors are true as Sony has confirmed that they are working on bring PlayStation 2 emulation to the PlayStation 4. A Sony representative recently told the WIRED the following statement, ”We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation," "We have nothing further to comment at this point in time." Bonus content included in the Star Wars Battlefront PlayStation 4 bundle (Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfight, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter) appear to be running on proprietary emulation software. The PS4 emulator will mimic the original software of the PlayStation 2, enabling you to run PS2 games. It’s unknown if will be able to use PS2-based discs on a PS4, or if the emulation will allow us to play purchased PS2 titles from the PSN. Regardless this is exciting news for PS4 users. New Nintendo Patent Could Bring Game Boy Games To Phones

Nintendo has filed a patent for a software emulator that could Officially bring its Game Boy games to phones and other devices as emulator’s for Gameboy games already exist on these platforms. The patent describes emulating Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance Games on cell phones. The patent doesn't mean Nintendo plans on bringing its games to phones and other platforms. It's an updated version of an older patent. Nintendo has explained many times that it's not bringing its games to mobile devices anytime soon, and earlier this month, it touted the sales of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS proving dedicated handheld gaming devices aren’t going anywhere.
