Nintendo And LEGO Officially Unveil The LEGO NES

Nintendo and The LEGO Group have confirmed that the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System will be arriving on August 1st. Fans can assemble their own console complete with a special retro television set and then turn the in-built crank to make your 8-bit Mario figure move around the screen. You can read the full details and order your own set here.
“Today’s announcement will let adult fans take a trip down memory-lane by building a mechanically functional version of an all-time favorite console with LEGO bricks. The new NES Building Kit will include a controller with a connecting cable and plug and even an opening slot for the Game Pak with a locking feature. The console also comes with a buildable retro TV, featuring a flat 8-bit Mario figure on the scrolling screen. Fans can scan an included action brick with LEGO® Mario™ from the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course, so he reacts to on-screen enemies, obstacles and power-ups just as he would have in the iconic Super Mario Bros. game.
“Super Mario has been a cherished figure in the gaming world for over thirty years now,” said Maarten Simons, Creative Lead on LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System™, the LEGO Group. “Many adults still fondly remember that first time they saw Mario leap across the small screen, even if the graphics were a lot simpler than they are today. With the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System, we’re letting them truly indulge in that nostalgia, recreating one of the most-loved consoles of all time so they can see the Super Mario from their childhoods once again – and even to share the experience of gaming in the 1980s with their own children.”

The LEGO Group and Nintendo announced their partnership earlier this year, bringing a fun-packed LEGO Super Mario universe to life through a Super Mario Starter Course set that exclusively features a LEGO Mario figure who displays a wide variety of instant reactions to movement, color and various action bricks. This entry point set was followed up on in May with a series of Power-Up Packs and in June with the announcement of a range of Expansion Sets and collectible Character Packs. All have been designed to build out the world of LEGO Super Mario, letting players unleash their creativity by building exactly the levels and challenges they want to see LEGO Mario and friends compete in.
This highly collectible NES building set is part of a range of inspirational LEGO models designed for discerning hobbyists, as they look for their next immersive challenge. The LEGO NES will be available exclusively from LEGO Retail Stores and LEGO.com from August 1st 2020. From 2021 it will be available also at other leading retailers around the world.
The full LEGO Super Mario product line also launches August 1st and will be available directly from LEGO Stores and www.LEGO.com as well as at leading retailers around the world.”

Nintendo Provides More Details On The Nintendo Switch Online Games For April 2019

Three NES games are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service this month, including a star of the Mushroom Kingdom, a star of the boxing ring and a star of, well, the stars themselves! Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream and Star Solider will all be available to play on the Nintendo Switch system starting on April 10.
  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels – Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game, while finding that its updated gameplay creates an entirely new challenge. In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress).

  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream – As young boxer Little Mac, players have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to battle the big guys of the World Video Boxing Association circuit. Take them on one by one, starting with skinny Glass Joe. Battle up through King Hippo and all the way to the WVBA Champion himself. Players use their best jabs, hooks and power uppercuts to knock out opponents, but must also dodge jaw-breaking blows by paying attention to subtle changes in their foe’s body position.

  • Star Soldier – The standard for vertically scrolling shooters, Star Soldier is the original game that spawned all of the titles in the long-running Soldier series. Go inside a floating space station inhabited by a giant computer known as Starbrain. Your mission: to stop Starbrain’s galactic invasion by piloting Caesar, a new compact space fighter, through 16 deadly stages.

These three games join the growing library of classic NES games in the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online collection. The varied collection currently consists of dozens of games, including Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, among many others. All of these NES games have been enhanced with online features and, using the power of Nintendo Switch, can be played at home on the TV or on the go.
Nintendo Switch Online members also gain access to the free-to-download software Tetris 99 as a special offer. The game includes online events like last month’s Tetris 99 MAXIMUS CUP.
Other features of the service include online play and Save Data Cloud backup in compatible games, plus a smartphone app that enhances features of supported games. To make playing NES games feel more authentic, Nintendo Switch Online members with a paid membership can purchase Nintendo Entertainment System controllers* that are compatible with Nintendo Switch by visiting https://nesc.nintendo.com/nintendo-entertainment-system-controllers.

NES Classic Out Sells PS4 And Nintendo Switch For The Month Of June

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, “Nintendo Switch was the only platform that produced software sales growth in June, with dollar sales more than doubling those of June 2017. Year-to-date software sales on Nintendo Switch are also more than double those of a year ago”.
But wait there’s more. The NES Classic had some success of its own, becoming the month’s #1 selling hardware. VentureBeat relayed the news that “Sony’s PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console and remains the top platform year-to-date, but Microsoft and Nintendo also saw their sales increase. Year-over-year, Xbox One made almost twice and the Switch sold more than 50 percent. Nintendo also sold the most consoles with its NES Classic”. Piscatella says that “this is the first time a Nintendo Entertainment System console has led in monthly unit sales since NPD tracking began in 1995”.

Nintendo Has Discontinued The NES Classic

Nintendo of America has confirmed to IGN that they’re discontinuing the NES Mini. The last shipments of the system will go out to retailers at the end of the month. This is disappointing news to many but Nintendo of America says it was never meant to be an ongoing, long-term product. Thoughts ?

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.” “NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans.”

1.5 Million NES Classic Editions Have Been Sold

During a Corporate Management Policy Briefing Nintendo recently held, the company revealed some new details on the success of the NES Classic Edition. The device sold 1.5 million units across the world and continues to be difficult to find in stores (Unless you live in NYC, looking at you Nintendo NY). In the briefing, Nintendo shed a little light on exactly why that is.

“In November last year, we brought back the nostalgic Famicom and NES home consoles in palm- sized versions and shipped the entire quantity of Nintendo Classic Mini Family Computer units we initially prepared for each market. We apologize to our consumers and retail partners for the inconvenience caused by product shortages. Some parts require time to procure, but we are working to increase production. We also see the nostalgic interest in these products as an opportunity to draw consumers’ attention to our latest game system, Nintendo Switch”.

The NES Classic Can Be Hacked Now

Well, it only took a few months for hackers to jailbreak the tiny console known as the NES Classic. While Nintendo have said there are no more games coming to the system, these modders can add as many NES games as they want. However, it’s still early days and there are doubts that every NES game will function properly on the simplified console. You can do this to your own NES Classic, but it should only be done at your own risk. Check out the video below to see the mod in action.

Nintendo Addresses The NES Classic Edition Selling Out

The highly-anticipated NES Classic Edition released on November 11, and it looks like many Nintendo fans were unable to get their hands on one. Nintendo of America has issued the following statement on the seemingly rampant sellouts, assuring that more consoles will become available at participating retailers in the coming weeks: “As recently posted by Nintendo on the Wii U website in Japan, Wii U production will end in the near future for the Japanese domestic market. We have nothing to announce in terms of exact timing. We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.”
