The Playstation Neo Won't Shorten PS4'S Lifecycle

According to president of worldwide studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony's PlayStation Neo won't affect the PlayStation 4's life cycle. The PlayStation 4 is the PlayStation 4 and the new high end PS4 is still PS4, so the life cycle is not going to be shorter Yoshida  said. His statements echo what Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House said about the PlayStation Neo

According To Sony Executive There May Not Be A PS5

Will there be a PlayStation 5 ? Well according to Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Worldwide Studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment, there may not be one. In a recent episode of The Game Informer Show, game designer Lorne Lanning was on the show to discuss the upcoming remake of the classic Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, along with several other topics. In a part of the show he said that he talked to Shuhei Yoshida at the DICE event last year, and told him the following:

“I said, ‘Well, what does the PlayStation 5 look like?’ And he said, ‘You mean if…’ And I was like, ‘Whoa. Are you willing to say that on stage?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s an if.'”

You can listen to the part about the PS5 at around the 45:00 mark below. It’s definitely interesting to think about considering how the industry is. With digital games, streaming games and mobile, consoles could be a thing of the past and just be an app you download to your TV or computer, etc. Hopefully that doesn’t happened, it’s just food for thought in my eyes. What do you think ?

Here’s How Sony Approaches VR Software

In an interview with Polygon, Sony president Shuhei Yoshida spoke about developing several, smaller VR experiences, rather than allocate resources to one big game. "It’s just the relative progression of any new media.” "When the content side starts investing, you usually start small." Yoshida advised his team to think smaller, because bigger isn't necessarily better. He tells developers "while you’re working on something long-term, the whole industry will learn a lot and you’ll discover half of what you set out to do will become obsolete." Yoshida said it's better to "focus on finding great experiences, and packaging it to deliver, and keep doing that." Yoshida believes huge development teams have no place in virtual reality. Large scale games "will naturally happen" as virtual reality matures. For now "VR is about creating new experiences." Sony will be holding a PlayStation VR event at GDC on March 15. A PlayStation Vita Successor Isn’t In Sony’s Future

It looks like a PlayStation Vita successor isn’t in Sony’s future. President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida was asked what Sony’s plans where for  handheld gaming during the Q&A portion of a EGX 2015. "That's a tough question," he replied when asked about a PlayStation Vita successor. "People have mobile phones and it's so easy to play games on smartphones," Yoshida said. "And many games on smartphones are free, or free to start. "I myself am a huge fan of PlayStation Vita and we worked really hard on designing every aspect. Touch-based games are fun, there are many games with really good design. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different."So I hope, like many of you, that this culture of playing portable games continues but the climate is not healthy for now because of the huge dominance of mobile gaming." What do you think of mobile gaming ? Do you own a PS Vita ? If so what do you think of it ?

Shuhei Yoshida Commented On The Alleged Nintendo Playstation Console

The recent discovery of what is thought to be the Nintendo PlayStation, caused a huge buzz on the internet with a number of people wondering if its real or not. If there’s anyone to ask about the project then it is Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios. Yoshida was working at the company when the prototype was going ahead and says that he actually played some games on the legendary device. However, he didn’t want to spoil the mystery, so he wouldn’t confirm or deny whether it is in fact the real deal. “When I joined Ken Kutaragi’s team in 1993, there was a system called ‘Play Station’ that had both Super Nintendo cartridge support and some disc game support. Actually, I played some games as well.” Alas, the exec made it very clear that he couldn’t confirm whether the recently surfaced “Nintendo PlayStation” device was legit, but he did give a cool reason. “Somehow, I think it’s more fun to keep it kind of a mystery.”

Sony Didn't Know About Tomb Raider's Exclusivity In Advance

When speaking to Eurogamer,  Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony's Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment) spoke about the prospect the of Square Enix title coming to PS4. Yoshida said “Tomb Raider being exclusive. It's very interesting the way Phil Spencer said, what we are saying is, in holiday 2015 Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox. So it's open to interpretation. But still, we didn't anticipate something like this would happen," he explained. How could we know? They might have to our third-party relations team, but I didn't know. I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer. If you're a marketing person at Square Enix and projecting your sales for the game, if it doesn't come out on PS4, it must be lots of units that have to be covered by some means." Rise Of The Tomb Raider is set to come out on Xbox One Holiday 2015
