Activision Acquires Candy Crush Developer For $5.9 Billion

Activision has announced an agreement to purchase all outstanding shares of Candy Crush Saga developer King Digital Entertainment in a deal worth $5.9 billion. Despite the high purchase price, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is optimistic about the acquisition. "Mobile gaming is the largest and fastest-growing opportunity for interactive entertainment and we will have one of the world's most successful mobile game companies and its talented teams providing great content to new customers, in new geographies throughout the world.” ”King has a truly fantastic management team and over 1,600 incredibly talented employees and we are excited to welcome them into the Activision Blizzard family." Activision will pay $18 per share as part of the agreement, much less than the $22.50 per share King was trading at when it went public last year. Micro transactions for Candy Crush drove $1.4 billion in revenue for 2014 and while users are still conducting micro transactions, income is on the decline at $206 million for the quarter ending in June. What do you think Activision will do with Candy Crush ? Why do you think they purchased King Digital Entertainment ?
