The Pokemon Company has announced that a new Detective Pikachu game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. All that was said about the game is that it will continue where the 3DS game left off. No release date was given.

In celebration of the upcoming release of the first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu,” in theaters beginning May 10, The Pokémon Company International, in collaboration with Niantic, Inc., Warner Bros. Pictures, and Legendary Pictures, announced a variety of movie-inspired in-game activities and content coming soon to Pokémon GO. Players can look forward to catching a Pikachu wearing a detective hat after getting photobombed by the Pokémon, more encounters with select Pokémon featured in the film, special Raid Battles and Field Research, and more.
“POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” has generated significant buzz among fans and theatergoers. The highly anticipated film will premiere in North American theaters on May 10, 2019, and across additional markets throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific starting this month.
“We’re excited for fans around the world to immerse themselves in the latest Pokémon adventure with ‘POKÉMON Detective Pikachu,’” said J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “We look forward to celebrating the first live-action film with fun new experiences in Pokémon GO.”
From May 7 through May 17, 2019, the following content will be available in Pokémon GO for a limited time:
Detective Hat Pikachu Photobomb—While using GO Snapshot, fans may get photobombed by a Pikachu wearing a detective hat and then be able to catch the Pokémon.
More Encounters with Pokémon Seen in the Movie—Pokémon such as Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, Psyduck, Aipom, and Snubbull, among others, will appear more frequently in the game. Players may also have opportunities to catch Shiny Aipom.
Special Raid Battles and Field Research—Players will be able to participate in Raid Battles that challenge Pokémon with starring roles in the film, as well as movie-inspired Field Research.
New Avatar Items—Fans will be able to customize their in-game avatars with movie-themed items, including a detective hat with Pikachu ears and a T-shirt featuring the “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” logo.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Legendary and Universal have gone their separate ways, and Warner Bros. and Legendary are working together once again. Warner Bros. will be “taking a stake” in Detective Pikachu. This will include “taking over distribution duties”. The movie’s May 10th premiere date is not expected to change.
For those who want to give Detective Pikachu on the Nintendo 3DS a try will be pleased to know that there’s a demo available for the adventure on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

There’s even more in store for Pokémon fans in 2018. Announced earlier today, the new video game Detective Pikachu will launch on March 23 in stores, in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS and at Nintendo.com at a suggested retail price of $39.99.
In this new adventure, players team up with a witty, tough-talking Pikachu to uncover clues, solve mysteries and encounter familiar faces from the Pokémon world. For the first time in a video game, this Pikachu can communicate with the player. With the help of Pikachu’s surprising voice, players can interact with other Pokémon in a whole new way as they embark on an adventure through the streets of Ryme City.
Also launching on March 23 is a special edition Detective Pikachu amiibo figure. This extra-large amiibo can unlock cutscenes if tapped in the Detective Pikachu game, revealing a combination of hilarious content that might also provide a hint. This same content can be accessed in the game without the amiibo, but tapping the amiibo will allow players to unlock content more quickly. The Detective Pikachu amiibo figure will be available at a suggested retail price of $29.99.
Fans who can’t get enough Pokémon can also download the classic 2D Game Boy Color game Pokémon Crystal when it launches in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 26 for only $9.99. The game, an expanded version of the popular Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver games, was the first in the Pokémon franchise to allow players to choose between a boy or girl playable character, and was the first game to introduce animations during Pokémon battles. The Nintendo 3DS version of the game is updated with wireless battling and trading, and is compatible with the Pokémon Bank app (annual service charge applies). Pokémon Crystal is now available for pre-purchase in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS.

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo today announced Detective Pikachu, a new video game scheduled to release exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems both digitally and at retail on March 23, 2018. An action-adventure title, Detective Pikachu finds the hero of the title – a unique Pikachu in the Pokémon world – partnering with Tim Goodman and searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases, while also investigating the disappearance of Tim’s father, Harry Goodman.
When he arrives in Ryme City looking for his missing father, little does Tim know he would meet a Pikachu, but more amazingly a Pikachu who he could communicate with. There’s more to this Pikachu than a detective hat – he’s one lovably gruff, tough-talking sleuth, with a taste for good coffee.
This Pikachu claims that he worked with Tim’s father, and the two pair up to discover his whereabouts. Together, Tim and Detective Pikachu will encounter a number of mysteries in Ryme City and will need to talk to witnesses and gather their testimony in order to discover the truth. Cases that would be impossible for Tim to solve alone can be cracked with the help of this Pikachu, because he is able to obtain vital clues and information from other Pokémon.
Detective Pikachu includes all the chapters of the 2016 Japan-exclusive Nintendo eShop release, Detective Pikachu – Birth of a New Duo, but adds further content that completes the story. The game features new locations to explore, as well as a colorful cast of both Pokémon and human characters.
For those players who are new to sleuthing and may need some help in uncovering the evidence, Detective Pikachufeatures an Easy Mode, where the title character will provide handy hints on what to do or where to go next.
A special Detective Pikachu amiibo is also planned for when the game launches. Legendary Pictures has announced that it has acquired the film rights to Pokemon. The studio will begin production on a Detective Pikachu film next year. Info on the plot and story of the character are unknown at this time. Toho Pictures will distribute the film in Japan, and Universal Pictures will distribute the film everywhere else. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix was also interested in the rights.
29,000+ people have signed a Change.org petition to get Danny Devito to be the voice of Detective Pikachu in the English version of the game. Danny Devito is definitely a cool pick of the role, but why him ? I do get it and I highly doubt Nintendo would pick him for the role. Also we don’t even know if the game is coming state side yet.
