iOS 10 Is Now On 48% Of Apple Mobile Devices

With iOS 10 being available for over 2 weeks after to the public, its adoption rate has reached 48.16% according to data obtained from Mixpanel's iOS 10 adoption tracker. iOS 10 is now installed on slightly more iOS devices than iOS 9, with Mixpanel's numbers suggesting 47.79% of iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches continue to run iOS 9. While 4.06% of devices still have iOS 8 or earlier installed. Since iOS 10 was released, its adoption numbers have been growing and has been almost on pace with iOS 9 adoption rates during this time last year. One day after release, iOS 10 was installed on 14.5% of devices, and at just under 1 week, following the release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it was installed on 34% of devices. Last year, less than 2 weeks after iOS 9 was released, Apple said it was installed on more than 50% of active devices, making it the operating system with the fastest ever adoption rates. 

iOS 10 Is Now Installed On 14.5% Of Devices

Apple's iOS 10, is seeing quicker adoption rates than iOS 9 has during the same time period last year, according to Mixpanel. As of 10 AM PT, 24 hours after iOS 10 was released, the OS is installed on 14.45% of devices. Compared to iOS 9 24 hours after it was released, the OS was installed on 12.60% of devices. The iOS 10 adoption rate will likely jump up as we hit the weekend, as people will have time to do the installation, and with the iPhone 7 releasing on Friday, there will be millions of new devices running the operating system. iOS 10 is a free update that's available for the iPhone 5 and later, the iPad mini 2 and later, the iPad 4 and later, and the 6th generation iPod touch.

iOS Update 9.3.5 Fixes Major Security Flaw

Apple has released a software update addressing a number of major security vulnerabilities that allows hackers full access to the contents of a target's iPhone. Apple urges all iPhone users to upgrade to iOS version 9.3.5 now, which you can do by going to Settings —> General —> Software Update, and press Install. In a statement to The New York Times an Apple spokesman said, “We advise all of our customers to always download the latest version of iOS to protect themselves against potential security exploits.” The security flaws allowed access the texts, emails, call history, and contacts of a targeted iPhone, and could also steal passwords, record sounds, and track the user's location. 

Apple Has Released iOS 9.2.1

Apple has released iOS 9.2.1 and is available as an over-the-air update to all iOS 9 users. iOS 9.2.1 is minor update focusing mainly on under-the-hood performance improvements and bug fixes rather than outward-facing changes. According to Apple's release notes, the update includes security improvements and bug fixes. 

iOS 9.3 Will Bring A New Feature Called Night Shift

According to beta users, Apple has a new feature in  iOS 9.3, called "Night Shift”. When activated, Night Shift "automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum" at nighttime. This is in response to several studies which indicate that cooler colors like blue can adversely affect a person's sleep cycle.The feature will then adjust the colors back to normal in the morning. Apple has released iOS 9.1 which fixes an issue with Live Photos, new emoji, Apple News for the UK, and more. Live Photos now senses when you raise or lower your iPhone, so it will no longer record unnecessary footage at the beginning and end of each Live Photo. Apple Has Released iOS 9.0.1

Apple has just released iOS 9.0.1. just a week after iOS 9 released. The update can be downloaded now over the air or through iTunes. Here’s the complete list of changes:

• Fixes an issue where some users could not complete setup assistant after updating
• Fixes an issue where alarms and timers could fail to play
• Fixes an issue in Safari and Photos where pausing a video could cause the paused frame to appear distorted

iOS 9.1 Will Give iOS Users New Emoji’s

Apple has released the first beta of iOS 9.1 to developers, and now the company has made iOS 9.1 available to public beta testers. iOS 9.1 includes features for the iPad Pro, adding support for accessories like the Smart Keyboard and the Apple Pencil, both of which are designed for the iPad Pro. iOS 9.1 also includes support for Unicode 8, introducing a selection of new emoji like taco, burrito, unicorn face and more. You can see all of the new emoji’s in the picture below. iOS 9.1 will likely be released to the public alongside the iPad Pro in November.

Apple Releases iOS 9 GM And OS X El Capitan GM

Apple has released the GM build of iOS 9, alongside the first beta of iOS 9.1. GM stands for Golden Master and represents the final build of the OS, matching the final version that will be released to the general public later in the month on September 16. Apple has also released the GM build of OS X El Capitan for Mac users participating in the Mac Developer Beta and OS X Public Beta programs. Additionally, Apple has announced that OS X 10.11 El Capitan will be available to the general public on September 30 as as free download.

Apple’s Next iPhone Event Will Be On September 9

Apple has sent out invites for an event on September 9 where it's expected to announce the next iPhone, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Apple To Have Flight Tracking Support For iOS9 And OS X El Capitan

Looks like there is an unannounced coming to iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan that will let users view up to date airline flight status, as well as a preview of projected flight paths. Discovered by a Reddit user, Apple's new flight tracking feature is already functional in the latest iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan beta builds, the data detectors are for now limited to Mail, Messages and Notes. When iOS 9 beta detects a flight number,it transforms the text into an actionable link connected to data pulled from an offsite server. A long press on said link brings up options to preview flight information or copy text. Information consists of flight numbers, current flight status, departure and arrival times, relevant airport terminals and an animation of the flight's path presented in Apple Maps. Status is clearly defined at the top-right, with options including Early, Delayed and Landed, while departure and arrival times are shown at the bottom with to the minute accuracy. The same information can be found in OS X El Capitan, but instead of a long press, users access flight data with a right click. Apple is expected to release iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan this fall.

The Rumored iPad Pro To Release In Mid November

Digitimes has reporting that Apple will release the rumored “iPad Pro” in mid November this year. The “iPad Pro” is expected to feature a large 12.9 inch screen with stereo speakers and targeted at business and education uses. Digitimes says that Apple has asked suppliers to ramp up in late September which should mean a November debut, with manufacturing by Foxconn. November would not be unusual for an iPad refresh, as Apple typically holding announcement events in October for iPad updates.The iPad Pro screen will feature a 2732×2048 resolution. iOS 9 will add additional keyboard layouts when run at that resolution, such as the inclusion of a number row. Apple Releases The Public Beta For iOS 9 And OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Today Apple released the public beta of OS X 10.11 El Capitan and the public beta of iOS 9. The public beta will allow users to test the new features of iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan before Apple launches in a stable build of the operating system this fall. Users can sign up to be a Beta Program member on Apple’s Beta Program site. With the public beta of OS X, Apple has in the past updated it less frequently than it does with the developer builds so we can assume it will take the same strategy with iOS. iOS 9 includes a variety of new features  like Proactive search, Transit in Apple Maps, and a new Notes application. 

Apple Announces iOS 9

Siri in iOS 9

At today's WWDC keynote, Apple revealed iOS 9, which is designed to improve upon iOS 8. With iOS 9, there will be improved Siri features and new deeper Spotlight search, and the iPad experience will improve with the addition of multitasking, letting users run two apps at once on the same screen. Built in apps like Notes and Maps have gained new features, there's a newly announcedNews app for reading news stories, and Passbook has been renamed to Wallet. Most importantly, performance improvements will help out the battery life, adding up to an hour in normal usage mode and up to 3 hours with a new power saving mode. As for Siri, she can offer you more information than ever before. For example, if a user runs every morning Siri can offer music to listen to when the user plugs in their headphones. The music is context sensitive and is dependent on time and place, so if a user is in the car Siri may offer an audiobook or podcast instead of music if that's what the user usually does. If someone calls a user with a number not in their address book, Siri can now look through email to see if it can identify the number. If possible, Siri will display it. 

The New York City Subway system on Maps

When it comes to apps, both Maps and Notes are getting major updates. Notes includes new formatting options, checklists, and sketching tools, along with the ability to share notes from Share Sheets. Maps is gaining Transit directions and a new transit view that shows off the transit lines in a city, from buses to trains to subways. The transit options are integrated into directions, allowing users to get step by step directions in between transit stops. Siri is also integrated into Transit, so users can ask Siri how to get to a location via a transit option. Transit is coming to a limited number of cities, including NewYork, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Mexico City and Washington, DC in the US. Berling in Germany, London in the United Kingdom; and Toronto in Canada. Also Apple Maps with transit directions will be available in more than a hundred cities in China, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Shanghai and many more. 

What the news app will look like

Apple also announced a brand new app called News. The app takes content from sources like ESPN, The New York Times and local news and presents them with many articles and beautiful imagery. Users can also keep track of specific topics they like to read about. The new app will roll out first to the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. 

Slide Over in action

The iPad is getting some exclusive updates in iOS 9, including multitasking and a brand new QuickType keyboard. Users can now bring in apps on the side of the screen in a new feature called "SlideOver," which brings in windowed versions of apps like Notes, Mail and Messages with a quick gesture Slide Over will only be avaialbe for iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3. Multitasking also allows users to put two apps next to each other with SplitView. Additionally, there's also a picture-in-picture feature that allows you to keep watching video from another app while you do something else, like check email. While most features are available for all iPads, SplitView is only available for iPad Air 2. Also Apple has reduced the free space needed to download iOS 9, from 4.6 GB to 1.3 GB. iOS 9 will be available in the Fall for the iPhone 4s through iPhone 6 Plus, iPad 2 through the iPad Air 2, iPad mini through the iPad mini 3 and the 5th generation iPod Touch. A Beta is available for developers today. 

Apple Announces This Years WWDC

Apple has announced its annual Worldwide Developers Conference for this year. The conference will take place in San Francisco as in early June. WWDC will officially kick off on June 8th and run through June 12th. Developers interested in attending the conference can apply for tickets (which cost $1599) starting today with applications open through Friday at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. Apple’s WWDC opening keynote serves as the unveiling stage for the next versions of iOS and OS X. Its expected that Apple will unveil iOS 9 later this year with a focus on performance improvements and overall stability as Apple moves to address recent quality control issues rather than foundational features. In addition to iOS 9 expected to be previewed at WWDC and released later this fall, Apple is continuing to push iOS 8 development further with the all-new Music app with a redesigned iTunes Radio experience in iOS 8.4. Apple is expected to unveil its Beats Music-based subscription music service at the conference as well as potentially announcing a new Web TV service for Apple TV. Apple may also reveal the Watch SDK for making native apps for the Apple Watch rather than the current collection of WatchKit apps which run on the iPhone and project information to the wearable.

Apple To Have Public Beta For iOS 8.3 And iOS 9

It looks like Apple will release the upcoming iOS 8.3 as a public beta via the company’s existing AppleSeed program in mid March, according to sources. This release will match the third iOS 8.3 beta for developers, which is planned for release the same week. Apple then expects to debut iOS 9 at its June Worldwide Developer Conference, with a public beta release during the summer, and final release in the fall.

iOS 9 To Focus On Optimization And Stability

After the UI changes and new features with iOS 7 and iOS 8, Apple seems to be changing their focus for the upcoming iOS 9. According to a new report the next major version of the iPhone and iPad software will mainly focus on stability and optimization. For 2015, iOS 9, which is codenamed Stowe  is going to include a collection of under the hood improvements. Sources tell us that iOS 9 engineers are putting a huge focus on fixing bugs, maintaining stability, and boosting performance for the new operating system, rather than solely focusing on delivering major new feature additions. Apple will also continue to make efforts to keep the size of the OS and updates manageable, especially for the many millions of iOS device owners with 16GB devices. iOS 9 will likely be unveiled at WWDC in June of this year. Apple currently has two versions of iOS 8 in development. The main feature of iOS 8.2 is support for the upcoming Apple Watch. The first beta version of iOS 8.3 was released to developers earlier today.
